Book #1 from the series: My American Boyfriend

My American Boyfriend

About

David, a young man from Scotland navigates the complexities of love, identity, and familial expectations as he transitions to his new life of attending University in America. Throughout his journey, David grapples with his sexuality and being comfortable in his skin. During his first year in university, he begins to form deep connections with two men: Anthony and Allen. His experiences with the two are marked by internal conflicts of anxiety, depression, cultural adjustments, and their evolving relationships that challenge his understanding of love and loyalty. Will David be able to handle his new life in America; or will all of the new experiences be too much causing him to return home and live the life his family has planned for him instead?

Praise for this book

The story is a bit cyclical as most young adult angst novels are. Just when you think the protagonist has it figured out suddenly someone else enters the arena and he can’t decipher what his heart wants. With that, it was an excellent distraction at work and in the car and some moments made me scream from frustration at the protagonist for being so naive(in the best way)! The drama kept me enthralled and often made me feel like I was in a soap opera! I wanted to fight Anthony! All-in-all It’s such a relatable queer experience! Would gladly read another title from this author!

I listened to this on Audible, and it was a nice story. With all the craziness of election season, I really needed to listen to something calm and light - and the audiobook did not disappoint! The narrator did a really good job bringing these characters to life. Would definitely recommend it, and I look forward to the sequel!

"A heartfelt and unflinching journey of love, identity, and resilience, as David’s search for belonging in a new world will captivate fans of Call Me by Your Name and A Little Life."
